A FIRST - Insurance company requires Hurricane Security Film

I received a call today from a business wanting a quote. It turns out that their INSURANCE company told them that they MUST have hurricane film protection on their windows.

That is the first time I have heard of such a thing - it makes perfect sense since it would reduce the damage claims from both a storm --or even a burglary attempt...

Apparently people (and insurance companies) are getting smart. Window glass is the weakest link of every building. Once it is breached you have internal damage - or theft. Our security film has prevented break-ins for our clients and eliminates the need to "board up" from a future hurricane. In the meantime it is saving $$$ on energy costs, enough to pay for itself.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Tornado Protection - What works?

After a devastating hit Moore Oklahoma last year, new building codes have been implemented - but are they enough?

I personally saw the devastation in Moore when I delivered supplies after the tornado hit. I took a few photos to document the destructive power of this killer.

From what I have read about them in articles like these, I don't think so.

Protecting garage doors is a good idea but they never mention protecting the GLASS, the weakest link of every building.WHY is that important? 

Tornadoes are like condensed hurricanes--winds spinning around a core at furious speeds. After four major hurricanes hit Florida in 2004 a study was made to find out why some houses survived while those next door were destroyed. They discovered the culprit - wind-borne debris.

When wind-borne debris hits a window and penetrates, wind rushes inside the structure and looks for a way out. The easy way is to uplift the roof. Basically it blows the building apart. Window glass is a 5,000 year old technology that hasn't changed in all that time. Glass can still be broken by a child or a small stone.

So unless cities like Moore and Oklahoma City also require windows to be beefed up " the "upgrades" will do little to protect the houses from future storms. Our security window film "fortifies" the glass to be like an impact window--only for far less cost than buying impact windows. Our security film is rated for a "Large Missile" Impact, which is a 4.5 lb. object shot into a test window (see the video on our website).  Think of it like a tornado throwing debris into your glass. Once a window breaks, its "game over" for the building.

Not that a film would protect a building from a direct hit by a tornado and 200 mile per hour winds, but it would protect nearby structures taking hits that are within the "Large Missile" category. It can take a 175 mile an hour wind (without impact).

Tornadoes, hurricanes, burglars, solar heat - all are enemies of your glass.  It remains the easiest way to break into a building, or destroy it in a storm.

Testimonial on Broken Window Protection

Armor Glass received the following letter from a customer we would like to share:

Thought you might like to see a couple of photos of a window that was ​protected by Armor Glass.   Your Company installed the shielding on my windows last September.  In late January, while I was out of town, the window shown here was apparently hit by an object.  

There were high winds reported in the area at the time and I'm assuming the "object" was, in all likelihood, a bird.   The glass is being replace this week and I will be contacting you to have it "re-Armored".

Asia Pollution Increasing USA Storm Strength

I new article published says that pollution in Asia is increasing the strength of storms over the United States - by at least 10% so far.

"Pollution from China's coal-burning power plants is pumping up winter storms over the northwest Pacific Ocean and changing North America's weather, a new study finds.
Northwest Pacific winter storms are now 10 percent stronger than they were 30 years ago, before Asian countries began their industrial boom, according to research published April 14 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
North America will be hardest hit by the intensifying storms, which move from west to east, said lead study author Yuan Wang, an atmospheric scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif."

Conclusion: Storms will intensify - and glass remains the weakest link of every structure.  Armor your glass.
