Hurricane IRENE is expected to hit Florida or the east coast as a CAT 3 (115 mph winds) by this Thursday.
If you look at the Atlantic satellite, there are more tropical waves coming off the coast of Africa - potential future hurricanes.
The hurricane peak is about mid-September, so we haven't reached the height of hurricane season yet. IRENE breaks the hurricane drought - we haven't been hit for awhile. Last year a blocking high kept them from reaching the U.S. No such protection this year...
Stay tuned!
